Fables and Reflections & Worlds' End

Six and eight respectively.

I've skipped over five and seven. Those are part of the canon storylines, these are just more stories. Yah.

Fables and Reflections really gets into backstory, which marks the seriousness of Sandman as it's own universe. Well, okay, only one story. But that's pretty good already. Orpheus.
You know, I never really thought of Dream as a "father" or male or remotely possible of firing anything but blanks (American Gods reference. Brownie points if you caught it). But yeah. I tend to think of him as Batman, a playboy eunuch (well, there's Damien...but I seriously don't consider him a 'son.' A genetical parasite of Bruce Wayne, but not 'son.' Yeah no). Obviously, Batman has his family: Alfred and Robins, and they're happily dysfunctional enough.
Also, the Endless in Greek attire. So not historically accurate. I was hoping for a Grecian interpretation of what they looked like as well as their name change >=[. Was sorely disappointed. Harumph. Destruction, Dream, somewhat Death and somewhat Destiny (actually...he doesn't change at all) were the only ones who fit in.
Um, the other stories. Time for a run-through: they're all named after months.
The one about the French Rev--I liked, especially coupled with the Orpheus story later on...
YAY EMPEROR NORTON! (Is all I will say about that one)
Werewolves...hrm. It was only implied, so I was a bit confused, but the art was pretty. Go Baba Yaga!
And Fiddler's Green. I love him. But not so much the involvement of the other historical figures. It was...well, too much text and trying to make the Sandman universe part of the real world. Redundant for me.
Ramadan: pretty, colorful pictures...and enough scantily-clad reclining women to, excuse my french, beat off to if it suits your fancy. Coloring is getting better, but still messy.
My favorite by far taps into almost my fangirly-gothic side. "Parliment of Rooks." More Daniel Hall, but this is more about Cain, Abel, and Eve than about Daniel. Also Goldie. So adorable!

But yeah. The story. I love the cordivae family. I don't know where it comes from. Probably Matthew and Master of Ravens
It's an interesting story. Abel's "'Lil Endless" are adorably illustrated too, and Abel is the kind of friend I'd want to meet in my dreams.
Eve's story...that one is probably why Sandman appeals so much to teenage girls (also, lots of nekkid women, so good exercise for the thrid leg too...I should stop pointing that out huh?). Coloring is generally good for that one, but in one panel, the colorist colored part of Eve's hair as if it was her face. It...was not. I was mildly irritated.

I don't like Hippolyta Hall. That is all.

Worlds' End is more stories within stories (metatheatre for comics, iffen I may). It's also a bit spoiler-tastic, but since I was all spoilertastic on myself, it didn't sting.
I was actually getting bored of all the tributary stories. Probably because I'm reading them all together (it's not my fault. Mr. A gives them to me. I'm just grateful he will). I get why they're intersect between the main storyline too.
The stories don't fail to entertain, but they also fail to stand out in my mind. A bit didactic, a bit fantastical, and all featuring cameos from previous stories...wait...well. Yeah. A Jesus story, A Charlotte Doyle story, A Dream story, An Elf story (not about elves, more about popes), A Hob story, and a Death....Corpes story.
I don't remember much, mostly because I'm tired, and kinda sick. See my not-book-review post coming up.
